Application virtualisation is a set of technologies that seeks to centralise the execution and delivery of an organisation’s applications.
Recent years have seen a reverse in the move towards desktop based computing, with its inherent costs and support issues. We are now seeing a strong desire amongst IT managers to regain control of their IT resources, driven in no small way by the need for greater efficiencies and return on IT investment.
Application virtualisation is most often associated with Microsoft Terminal Services (and Citrix XenApp’s enhancements to this technology).
