centrix
workspace 4.0:

Cetus Solutions add Centrix WorkSpace to their solution set; WorkSpace 4.0 was announced on the 16th June at the Citrix iForum event in Edinburgh:

Centrix WorkSpace is a universal publisher and aggregator of virtual & local applications, and web services delivered through a rich thin browser-based environment. WorkSpace accelerates user adoption of IT Services, consolidating complex and fragmented delivery mechanisms into a searchable application store and customizable, yet simple, workspace environment.

Centrix WorkSpace improves the user experience and lowers cost, whilst empowering greater business control and visibility.

Mike English, Managing Director at application delivery specialists Cetus Solutions, said, "One of the biggest challenges in application delivery projects is ensuring a good experience for the user, particularly given the large numbers of applications being used within enterprise environments. Centrix WorkSpace is an interesting product concept, providing the user with a consistent, easy to use platform for accessing applications and services with the same look and feel across all of them. I see a big opportunity for solutions such as Centrix WorkSpace in the emerging desktop virtualisation market by making it simpler to deliver services to users."

Being able to monitor application use is also an important factor when it comes to planning application strategy and budgeting. Most companies don’t actually understand, or have an accurate measurement of how their applications are used and what users have access to, which often leads to over-licensing and additional costs. Centrix WorkSpace will aid us in how we deliver a consistent, intuitive experience to the user, while the metering functionality also offers greater insight for our customers into their application lifecycles. In the longer term, chargeback visibility can allow organisations to manage their application licensing much more accurately and help to reduce their costs.

nuneaton & bedworth borough council

Cetus Solutions Limited are proud to announce that they have secured a major contract for the provision of IT services to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC). The five year partnership will see Cetus provide network infrastructure, application delivery and server consolidation services across NBBC’s IT infrastructure.

Early in 2008 NBBC were faced with a refresh of their ageing desktop PC and server population. Keen to explore alternatives to this costly and repetitive cycle, NBBC’s ICT Team investigated the potential benefits that developments in server and desktop virtualisation technologies might bring. Their investigations led them to the conclusion that the improved user experience, potential cost savings, reduced carbon emissions and reductions in administrative efforts that these technologies would bring, would lead to direct improvements to the service provided to their constituents. Approval to proceed with the tender process was granted in November 2008 and NBBC undertook a public tender process under the OGC Catalist framework. Cetus Solutions joined two other IT service companies in being invited to submit tenders for the full infrastructure upgrade, and were successful in beating off stiff competition for this high profile project.

Mike English, Managing Director of Cetus Solutions, commented: “Whilst we have a large number of public and private sector clients; our success in winning this contract was particularly rewarding. The standard to which our competitors fought to win this contract, and the effort that my team put into our subsequently doing so, has given me great cause to be proud. We now look forward to working in partnership with the team at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council in delivering the benefits that the latest virtualisation technologies will bring. NBBC’s vision of a utility computing model at the heart of their infrastructure is at the very forefront of current thinking; our ability to delivery these key technologies will enable this vision to become a reality.”

Paul Ford of NBBC said: “It was an easy decision choosing Cetus Solutions as the Council's new technology partner for our infrastructure modernisation project. Cetus Solutions differentiated themselves from the competition by their attention to detail, their very business-like approach and an ability to always focus on the key issues. We were also impressed by the calibre of their employees who demonstrated a deep understanding of the technologies being prescribed to help us and also the way in which they described how they could be tailored to exactly meet our business requirements. They delivered all of this in a very supportive way demonstrating real empathy for our business problems.”

The full infrastructure upgrade will comprise NetApp SAN Storage; Citrix XenApp (running on Citrix XenServer) for application and desktop delivery; VMware Virtual Infrastructure for server consolidation and 3Com network hardware for the local area, wide area and wireless networks. The project will also allow for an assessment of the potential use of the latest generation of virtual desktop technology, using Citrix XenDesktop, to be conducted.
