Application Streaming addresses a number of business needs, namely:
license management
By streaming applications on demand, from a central license pool, IT managers are able better to control their license usage. Rather than provide software licenses for each desktop PC, for the eventuality that a software product might be used; application streaming delivers functionality to users when they need it. Licenses can be returned to the central pool after a preset period of time, allowing IT managers to exert more granular control over license useage.

Deploying applications to desktop devices can be a time consuming task. Even when automated deployment schemes are used; compatibility issues can consume IT resources, or prevent deployment altogether. Application streaming can deploy applications into isolated environments, ensuring that existing applications and operating system issues do not prevent deployment. Streamed applications can be configured to automatically uninstall after a preset amount of time, removing the need for IT intervention in order to comply with licensing requirements.
CPU/Graphically intensive applications
Server Based Computing environments provide a means of centralising application delivery, however certain applications do not lend themselves to this model. In particular, graphically and CPU intensive applications often require access to local PC hardware resources (or consume an unacceptable amount of resource on the application server). By streaming these applications to power-users, IT managers are able to deliver resource hungry applications whilst maintaining centralised control.
