Web Application delivery presents a number of challenges to IT managers:
As demands are placed upon the web application delivery infrastructure, point solutions are introduced to provide additional, or to offload existing, functionality. Devices such as Load Balancers, SSL Offloaders, TCP Offloaders and Caching Proxies allow organisations to cope with the growth in demand, however they are costly to purchase and maintain, and require specialist skills to ensure that they perform optimally.
In order to cope with increasing numbers of web site and application users, it is usual practice to ‘throw tin at it’, providing more web servers and backend application servers to cope with the demand.

More users means more usage, which in turn means more bandwidth (or slower response times!). This simple progression requires an increasing investment in Internet bandwidth as demand increases.
